Traditionally, the motive industry has relied on lead-acid batteries or nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries to power these devices because they were the only choices. Now, auto manufacturers no longer have to endure the shortcomings of these older battery technologies: low energy, poor cycle life, heavy weight, constant maintenance, "sudden death" or memory effect.
