Bus Manufacturer Partners with Valence for 5 Years and Deploys Over 45 Busses in Nottingham Medilink Project
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 2, 2014 — Valence Technology, a manufacturer of safe, long‐life lithium ion magnesium phosphate batteries, today announced its product is being used in over 45 electric Optare busses in the city of Nottingham located in the UK.
These electric busses were deployed as a part of the Medilink service and the establishment of the Queens Drive Park & Ride initiative, which provides a free accessible bus service serving the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre via two Park & Rides sites. The buses run every 10 minutes linking with both with tram and several key bus services. It currently transports over 1.26 million passengers per year.
The first stage of the electric bus project has successfully operated for over a year, with four fully electric Optare buses being used. The final two stages were completed this year and now include over 45 buses. The buses are equipped with a rapid charge system, which charges the vehicle at normal stops. This extends their range throughout the day without interrupting service.
